High Bio-nutrient Crop Production Workshop, Feb. 21-22nd

February 21, 22, 2015, a 2-day soils course which focuses on growing healthy plants and eating bionutrient foods grown in our gardens/farms.  This workshop is being offered just south of Traverse City, at Baker’s Green Acres farm in Marion, Michigan. This High Bionutrient Crop Production Workshop will be led by founder Dan Kitteridge of the Bionutrient Food Association. It is designed so that participants can learn the basic principals and practices of this form of biological and energetic farming and gardening.

An introduction to High Bionutrient Crop Production was presented in December in both Ypsilanti, and in Northern MI at Baker’s Green Acres farm, with Dan Kittridge of the Bionutrient Food Association.

NOW, we offer the full-intensive/2-day course, Feb. 21-22nd, hosted again at the Baker’s farm in Marion, Michigan with Dan Kitteridge leading the course.

This event is cooperatively sponsored/announced by: Little Artshram, O’k CSA, Baker’s Green Acres and the Anyone Can Farm program….as well as other friends, and organizations in Michigan including AMPY, and Awareness Farms.

Please share widely, there is space for at least 20 participants and this is going to be a valuable means by which to set up food-growing networks statewide and to consider ways in which to push beyond sustainable practices to resiliency—-which is what our beloved planet home asks of us.

Under the snow: SOIL! What we’re up to this winter…..

Although we are covered in a beautiful, deep layer of snow up here in Northern Michigan,  many of us garden-farmers are preparing for the coming growing season.  For O’k CSA and some of our Cooperative partners, it’s a time when we not only sort/organize our saved seeds, and begin planting charts and garden-bed planning, it’s also a time to delve deeper in areas of study that will benefit our gardens.  This year’s shared popular theme in Northern Michigan seems to be SOIL!
We’ve been planning, with a few of our other garden-farming partners to bring Dan Kitteridge of the Bionutrient Food Association to Michigan, and have scheduled a February 2-day workshop, with more information shared below.

But first, coming up very soon, is the annual Northern Michigan Small Farms Conference a welcome reprieve for our green-yearnings and a wonderful, annual winter gathering and social/networking event.  Last year, I had the challenging pleasure of graphically recording a three of the workshop sessions. (I’ll post some of those illustrated wall charts in the next few weeks.) This year, in a day before opportunity, on Friday, January 23rd, Peter Bane and Keith Johnson, two of our permaculture mentors, will be amongst those sharing wisdom and knowledge and giving a presentation at the Farm School…more info here:  http://artmeetsearth.org/farm-school

The N. MI Small Farm Conference is a full day of workshops on farming, business planning, livestock, soil science and more. Friday evening keynote at the Hagerty Center is Winona LaDuke.
